Croatian tourist attractions - Vukovar
There are many wonderful and fascinating sites to visit in Croatia, and one of the best is the town Vukovar.
Vukovar is located where the Danube River meets the Vuka River. Its location on these two major water ways makes Vukovar the largest river port in Croatia. This historic town has been occupied by humans for the last five thousand years. Evidence of the many tribes and cultures which have lived in the region are evidenced by the vast array of archaeological artifacts and sites in and around the town. Some of these with might be of interest to tourists include: Vučedol, The Srijem County Palace, The Eltz Castle which houses the Vukovar Town Museum, and The Baroque Town Centre.
Those interested in the history of the region of eastern Croatia might want to learn more about Vučedol culture. This culture gets its name from the town of Vukovar which is at the center of its influence. There are many aspects of Vučedol culture which warrant study, but perhaps one of the most well known is the ceramic piece called the Vučedol Dove (Vučedolska Golubica)
